ARTIST STATEMENT

Ashlie is a fine art photographer and artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Her work focuses on the ephemeral beauty and sublime strangeness of the natural world. Unable to fully accept the fleeting, and wanting to get ever-closer to the tiny mysteries held within nature, she uses a macro photography technique that brings the tiny details of her botanical subjects to larger-than-life, abstract artworks.

Through her art practice, Ashlie researches native and non-native plant species, connects more deeply to nature through close observation, learns about local ecosystems, and explores themes of connection, cyclicality, rhythm, and movement.
