OPEN CALL: APPLICATION DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 18, 2024
FRANK Gallery is accepting applications for new artist members of the arts collective. The call is open to artists in all mediums: sculpture, ceramics, wood/furniture, painting/mixed media, printmaking, photography, textiles, jewelry and glass. Applicants will primarily be juried based on their artwork but emphasis will also be put on their potential contributions to the collective. Individuals from groups underrepresented in visual arts organizations are strongly encouraged to apply. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.
Who is FRANK?
FRANK is a contemporary fine art gallery featuring work of its member artists as well as exhibiting numerous other North Carolina artists. As a non-profit organization FRANK is enriching its community not only through exhibitions but also through events and education. FRANK member artists work in the gallery, curate and hang new exhibitions, host opening receptions, plan and organize educational and other community events and participate in fundraising events and initiatives.
What are FRANK member artists’ privileges?
- Have their art in the gallery at all times.
- Have a featured artist show every 18-24 months.
- Become part of a tight FRANK community and participate in decision making about FRANK exhibitions, programs and community outreach.
- Opportunities to give art talks, organize workshops or other community educational events.
What are FRANK member artists’ responsibilities?
- Work in the gallery approximately eight to twelve hours each month.
- Serve on gallery committees.
- Pay monthly dues in the amount of $60 and a reduced commission of 30% on all sold artwork.
- Donate art to the FRANK annual Off The Wall fundraising event.
About the provisional period
New members will be accepted as provisional for a trial period of six months. During this period, provisional members pay dues and have all privileges and responsibilities of a permanent member. If it is mutually desirable to transform provisional into permanent membership, the member will be charged a one-time initiation fee in the amount of $500. Installment payments are possible and, in some cases, financial assistance may be available.
APPLICATIONS
Applications will be accepted until December 18, 2024, online via the application submission below. We will not accept mailed or emailed applications. Questions can be directed to [email protected]. Potential candidates may be invited to be interviewed; final selections will be made by January 17, 2025. The provisional membership runs from January 31 – July 31, 2025.
Applicants are asked to submit:
- 5-10 high quality photographs that best represent the type of work that you would be showing in the gallery. All work must be made within the last two years.
- Resume with cover letter describing the skills that you would bring to the collective. Examples include: web design, social media, community engagement, fundraising, marketing, event management, catering, etc. (no more than two pages).
- Artist Statement/Artist Bio (no more than one page).
- A $25 application fee.
We are looking for professional artists producing strong, consistent bodies of work. Show us your most focused work that best represents your voice as an artist.
Instructions for submitting
We use a service called EntryThingy to collect submissions. Here’s how it works:
- Create an account with EntryThingy below. Fill in fields to complete account registration.
- Once account is created, click “Apply Now”, located to the right of the FRANK GALLERY CALL FOR ARTIST MEMBERS. Read over entry instructions and once finished, click to indicate that you understand. Press “Continue to Next Step” to move forward.
- Type or copy and paste your Artist Statement/Bio and your Resume into the fields provided, then click Submit. This will take you to the “General Entry Information” page.
- Fill out all “General Entry Information” fields.
- Next, upload your artwork. Click “add file” to input image information. Click “choose file” to upload an image. Once image information is complete, click “upload”. The image can seen on the next screen.
- Repeat this process by clicking “add file”. In order to submit application, you will need to input at least 5 images, with a maximum of 10.
- You will then be prompted to pay the application fee via PayPal. Continue through the PayPal prompts and then submit your application.
